The History of Shopping Center Development

As shopping center activity continuesworldwide, also the current situation, new trends and future developments will beillustrated as well as an insight into the new shopping center market of Asia, whichis one of the most growing markets at the moment, will be given.

Shopping Leakage: Case Study of Maseru
This book is an attempt to understand shopping leakage from Maseru to Bloemfontein and Ladybrand. The reason and what motivate people to travel a long distance in search for a particular type of goods or services. It investigates the patterns of shopping leakage and factors that contribute to the leakage. It tend to highlights the roles of town planners and development planning in spatial retail places and commercial land uses. Theories were understood to prove the on going shopping leakage from Maseru. Shopping leakage was traced to certain aspects of consumer behaviour, the characteristics of the shopping trip, retail facilities and types of shops available. Socio-economic factors also influence shopping pattern, as do entertainment activities. Government and corporate bodies such as banks, through their regulations and laws created an impact on the shopping leakage from Maseru to Ladybrand and Bloemfontein. It is also assumed that topography and burning of retail buildings in Maseru in September 1998 also limits the retail facilities in the town. Recommendation was provided at the end of the book on how to minimize shopping leakage.

An Analytical Study on Shopping Centre Development
Throughout the history, it is observed that the spatial environments as well as the culture of shopping centers have played an important role in human life. At the beginning, they were located at city centers and they have become a part of social life. However together with the industrialization period, the ongoing shopping activity have changed to end up with consumer cultures. In this book, the historical evolution of shopping spaces has been examined in their physical, spatial and cultural frame. Shopping centers can be grouped as the ones at the city center and out of center . The shopping malls at the city center which are the focus points of this study, have been examined from three points of view as location , type , and consumer culture . As a result of comparative analysis of shopping malls of three global cities-London, New York, Tokyo- throughout the history, some advise are given for new shopping malls to be built at city centers according to cultural, historical and physical context.

Shopping Paradise Airport
Peoples associations with airports are mainly dominated by the transport function. In recent years, many airports have developed large shopping experience areas. The research project presented in this book examines passengers shopping behaviour and motivation in order to better cater to customers needs. In a first step the author reviews latest literature in the field of shopping motivation in general and airport shopping typologies in particular. In the second part of the analysis, the empirical study is introduced: A survey of airport shoppers was carried out at several international airports to reveal passengers motives to shop at the airport environment. The data allows to extract a new typology of airport shoppers. This comprehensive book provides innovative insights for retailers as well as for airport facility planners and is a valuable contribution in the field of shopping behaviour of air travellers.
